Norcold Amish Unit without recall and obtaining RV insurance
This topic may have been covered several ways but here is a new twist (I didn't see this covered anywhere so far....).
I know David Force states you do not need to have the recall kit installed after replacing the Norcold cooling unit with the Amish cooling unit.
Has anyone who has taken the recall unit off applied for RV insurance and been asked about having the recall performed? If so, what did you tell them in order to get your RV covered? This may be a fairly new question since the Norcold class action lawsuit.

I'm not sure of your question as you mention Norcold and Amish. The Amish cooling unit doesn't come with any recall because it has never been recalled.

Let me clarify:
- You have a Norcold Refer
- You replace the cooling unit with the Amish cooling Unit
- You take off the recall kit (as recommended by David Force)
- You call to get RV insurance
- They ask if the recall has been performed and when
- You tell them the cooling unit has been replaced and recall not required
- They ask if the recall was performed and when. (As in, if you have a Norcold you need the recall....)
How did you handle getting insurance if you were asked about the recall?

I could be wrong as I don't have an Amish unit but I don't think they come with the recall therefore there's nothing to take off. It has not been recalled and shouldn't be confused with the Norcold which has.

The way I see it there's two ways to handle it.
1. Since you had the recall done on the original Norcold that you removed just say "yes".
2. Tell them you replaced the unit with an Amish unit and hope they are familiar with their reputation for quality and not bursting into flames.
Either answer is correct and honest.

Sounds pretty simple to me. Just tell them that even though the fridge is a Norcold that it no longer has the cooling unit that had the problems with catching fire and for which the recall was issued, and that no recalls have ever been issued on the Amish-built cooling unit. Should not be a problem!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Technically you no longer have a Norcold Fridge....I no longer consider mine a Norcold with the ACU.

Hypothetically?
Has an insurance company ever asked anyone if they had a Norcold or if any recalls have been done on said Norcold? Or is this strictly a hypothetical question.
We've had a bunch of RVs over the last 40 something years. All have been insured and nobody has ever asked that question.

I wasn't asked but perhaps as someone mentioned, the Class Action Suit may be causing a change in their interest. Apparently there were not enough fires to get their attention. Doh.
Having picked our coach up yesterday with the Amish Cooling unit installed I just filled out the warranty card and looked through their complete cooling unit brochure. The word Amish appears nowhere in either document. Yes - I ordered through David Force - yes it's all over the RV Cooling Unit Warehouse website. If I am asked I think I will tell them I have a Pines RV Refrigeration Unit - model PN1210 and let them sort it out. Don't think I will be asked though.
