I'm having trouble with our Norcold refrigerator. It's a two-door model 682. When I turn it on to operate on gas, the burner ignites, burns nicely for about 10 seconds, then turns off.
I checked and cleaned connections to the igniter module, but that didn't help. Only reference I found in the service manual to not staying lit suggested to replace the igniter module. That doesn't quite sound right. Does the igniter module turn off the gas valve somehow if something isn't right? I don't see a sensor for detecting flame on/off. How is that determined?
What is the next step on this?

When you attempt to make the switch to propane, are you still on "shore power" or are running only on battery power?
I have an 841 model and sometimes the same thing happens to me if I'm starting it from just the battery when it's not sufficiently charged. It took me awhile to figure this out as there was no error code from my refrigerator. It would just shut down and start beeping.
So, now I either make sure the battery is fully charged or I am plugged into "shore power" before starting with (or switching from electric to) propane.

Maybe it's not sensing that the flame is actually lit so it closes the gas valve after 10 seconds. I know my funace is set up this way, and the flame sence is part of the ignitor.

Did you purge off any air in the lines first? Start the stove top first and let it bur for a minute. I have seen air mixed in the lp gas to cause the flame to "lift" off the burner. Once the air is all out then the burner will settle down. The problem is that before it gets there the board may be shutting down if the electrode is not in the flame. Once you are sure it is then move on to the next step.
The first thing I check on a refrigerator having a problem in the gas mode is the working pressure of the LP gas regulator. It is critical that 11" water column is adhered to as close as possible. Many of the other burners are of BTU size that off pressures rarely effect the operation of the appliance. This is not true with the small burner of the refrigerators. IF the pressure is good then proceed with cleaning and diagnosing as has been discussed. Good luck and keep us posted.

You're right, Mike. I'm so used to starting up the stove burners to bleed the lines after I turn the gas on that I forgot about that possibility.
