Sorry about your troubles... I run a Norcold at -20F, that's minus 20 F, on either LPG or 120VAC and have never had a problem of any kind after 2 full winter seasons use at those temps. I also do that at 9,600ft to 10,500ft altitude. I then take it down to 128ft altitude and far more sensible temperatures and still have no troubles.

First: There is a recall on Norcold absorption cooling units, Same as on Dometic, Check the norcold web site for more informaiton on it (I have a dometic so I'm not 100% up on the Norcold) Page 2:

Another thing that is common to both Norcold and Dometic (Right down to the price, they are expensive, but.. All factors concerend, I'm not sure how much)

They have a couple of dual power (AC/DC) units, no propane at all, these are compressor units, I have linkes to the dometic products and will provide one so you know what i"m typing about Click Here These units draw less than fifty watts

In fact they usually draw less than 40 watts

They are compressor units, Just like your home fridge, but they are new tech. I have a chest freezer in my rig (just carried it out of the house) that is 1: Small (about 1.5 cubic feet) and 2: draws 36 watts running and 3: is 4 years old and going strong

Very impressive box when you look at how much it sucks from the batteries. Did i say Sucks, sips is more accurate

The ultra-hi efficiency energy sipping 120VAC/12VDC dual voltage full compressor units (no LPG) have been a mainstay in the marine industry for years. As much as I wished our land yachts would use more marine technology/products (efficiency and durability) alas, undoubtedly it is cost that drives the marine away from land yachting. Only high-end "expedition" class RVs like Earth Roamer and the uber-expedition UniCat, use the full marine contingent of 120/12 refers, full catalytic heat and catalytic stoves and even some very fancy ultra-efficient AC units.
