I have a Norcold N821 in my 08 Safari. I have replaced the power board, AC heater, and front control panel. I thought I had it fixed, but no!

When I am not hooked up to AC or not running Gen. it works perfectly on propane. The fridge 110 is unplugged, but with generator running or shore power hooked up it will not run on propane. How can this be? With the fridge not hooked to AC, it will not work with Gen. running.

I am thinking something with converter, any ideas?

Thanks,
Kevin

The control board & control panel and gas control valves will work off the 12V system in your coach.
When you switch to 120V the control board & control panel still works off your coach 12V system in your coach.
12V supply works from a 12V FUSE PANEL which feeds from the 12V house batteries which are charged from your converter.
When its switches to 120V from LP gas your 120V power cord for fridge has to be plugged in should not be pulled always leave it plug-in.
The 120 supplies only the heating elements which are fused on master control board.
If panel board is on "AUTO" operation, fridge will automatically switch between LP gas or 120v if your hooked to shore power or Gen is running.
PUT IN AUTO MODE 3D MANUAL FROM BOTTOM.

The problem comes when the fridge is plugged in with Shore Power on or Generator running. Fridge does not operate once the coach has AC current, even with Fridge unplugged from 110. I am leaning toward a converter charge to battery problem, will be testing this weekend.

Thanks

We had a similar problem, it would not run on AC only or switch over to propane in Auto Mode but would work perfectly in LP mode. The problem was a bad converter - Parallex 7455T.

Your right it was the Converter/Charger. If I turned off the breaker for the Converter the fridge worked fine on AC or LPG. I read on another thread to run a separate wire from battery to fridge, thats what I did now and it works fine. The tech said it is AC ripple from Converter. I wish I had not spent money on a control board, but now I have an extra.

Thanks for the help!
Kevin

After re-reading the Norcold installation manual it states to directly connect the 12volt power to battery with 18 awg wire and a 6 amp fuse. Not sure why the manufacturers are wiring it to the converter when that is not what the manual says.
