When I purchased my used coach, the Norcold basement freezer/fridge was kept by the former owner. I have been searching high and low for a replacement. The two models that I have been comparing are the Norcold MFRT-60 and the Dometic CF-110. I have not been able to find either model as used or refurbished/rebuilt. If anyone has a lead on either model that is used/refurbished/rebuild, please contact me with the information.

Looking at new ones, currently PPL seems to have the best sale price on both models. The Norcold is going for $1019.00 and the Dometic is going for $808.00. Both items would have a pretty hefty shipping charges, but no sales tax charges.

It appears both are very similar in features and trying to justify the $200 price difference. The Norcold states that it automatically switches from DC to AC when AC is available and I do not see that feature listed for Dometic; however, the Norcold is a bit smaller at 2.12 cu ft and the Dometic is 3.17 cu ft. Other than the price, cu ft, and auto DC/AC switch, I really do not see any other glaring differences.

Do any of you have experience with either make or model, either good or bad? Any suggestions on which way to go and why you would choose one over the other? This is a really major purchase for me and I want to make the best informed choice I can.

Here are some pertinent links if you want to see additional information:

Norcold Factory Info - MRFT 60

PPL Norcold Info - Portable Refrigerator - Norcold MRFT-60 on Sale

Dometic Factory Info - Products - Dometic

PPL Dometic Info - Portable Freezers - CF Series by Dometic

I appreciate any help or further leads on this topic either by posting a reply or sending a private message.

Thanks!

Here is a thread with discussion of the two types.
Both models may have problems riding in motor home by vibration on internals.
PPL is good to deal with for the unit or parts.

I installed a Norcold MFRT-60 this summer and it appears to be a very good unit.

The Dometic looks like a good unit too and it also switches between DC and AC automatically -- check the online manual for it on Dometic's web site.

The Dometic units also have a battery saver switch -- a very good thing.

Whatever unit you decide on, make sure there's a slideout drawer made for it as you don't want to be lugging these things around.

I know Norcolds have slideouts because I bought one.
