Norcold Refrigerator

We have a Norcold N611 refrigerator that opens on the left. On the bottom trim it has a molded hinge pin receiver that broke. This means the door falls off whenever it is opened. We would like to just be able to replace the broken plastic part - not the entire door but have been told by the manufacturer that we can't purchase that piece. From talking with a local RV dealer it seems we are not the only ones who have experienced this problem. The door part number is 623955. Any ideas on how this might be repaired or where to get a salvaged door? Really don't want to buy a complete new door when just a small plastic piece is all that is broken.

We had our Norcold Recall/Enhancement done in Blythe, CA and the guy that ran it had lots of "parts" and several old refrigerators "out back". It might be a waste of your time. . .

Hope this helps

Thanks, since we live in Indiana that would be a bit of a way to go. I know there are old refrigerators around here somewhere but we can't find them so we bit the bullet and bought a new door.

Jnana,

I'm curious. Did your broken hinge piece look something like this???

Actually we were told we had to buy a whole new door liner since the part that broke is molded into the door. When talking to the saleperson I mentioned that I was not the first person who had encountered this problem. Norcold now makes a reinforcement part which we ordered with the new door. Norcold does charge for this part which doesn't seem right to me since the part that broke appears to be a weak design. Actually, I think the reinforcement part alone would have been enough. If anyone has this probelm in the future let us know and we can point you in the correct direction for a fix.

Hey jnana I had also faced the same problem with my lg refrigerator. Mine refrigerator is also open on the left and at the top trim it had a hinge pin receiver which was broken, so we had to lift a door and close it. Later when I went to a lg manufacturing to get a hing pin they suggested me to replace the door. I tried searching everywhere for the pin but couldn't get anywhere. So there was no another option except replace the door. So I hope you also need to change door or get the new refrigerator.

The lower hinge on our Norcold refrigerator broke causing the door to fall off onto my husband’s big toe and almost removing the toe completely! The bone was shattered into many pieces in addition to the toe being almost removed.

Norcold built this 25 pound door and connected it to the refrigerator with a tiny hinge with 2 screws each about ¼ inch long, into the PLASTIC door. Who in their right mind expected this system to work and be safe. Norcold would do nothing for us because it was over two years old. We had to buy a door for $1,000 and install it ourselves.

I am looking for people who have had the same problem and filed a class action suit that I can join or find those who are also wanting to file a class action against Norcold.

Welcome grandeursp to irv2.
This has been a problem for everyone for past couple of years if I can remember.
Why hasn't someone gone to a metal or machine shop to see if one could be fabricated by them.

They may want to make up a few but with all that are having this problem, who ever had them made up would get their money back.

You have plenty of clearance on the bottom of the door. Get a piece of 1/8" strap metal, 1 1/2" wide and attach it to the bottom of the door with a good adhesive and screws, angled out at the hinge end. Drill a hole in the correct spot to fit over the hinge pin and you will be good to go. You can trim the strap for cosmetic purposes and it will look like it belongs there. Place a teflon washer over the hinge pin and under the strap for ease of opening. When I repaired mine, I used 1 1/2" x 1/8" angle iron which turned out to be a bit of overkill. Search the archives, this problem has been written up before.
