Due to my recent Norcold failure I've spent a great deal of time evaluating my options. Incredibly over the past few days I've met four different individuals that are rv'ers (two full timers) and none of them were aware of the Norcold recall program. One even commented there had been a fifth wheel catch fire recently in the park she is staying.
My point, even with the 60,000 + members on this board plus all the other rv boards out there; there are thousands of rv'ers out there that don't own a computer much less participate on rv forums; therefore, they don't have a clue about the recall with the Norcold refers.
Somehow, we need to help get this information out to those that don't know. Any ideas?

Jim,
I am so sorry to just now hear about your Norcold failure. I hope it didn't include a fire.
Can you PM me with the details of what happen please.
Regarding your observation about the number of people that don't have a clue, I have met several as I travel around North America.
What I have taken up doing is to approach my neighbors as many as I can to find out if they are informed. I also make up a poster to leave on their information board for people to see and read. I usually print it out in RED to hopefully catch their eye.

Is there a quick link about the Norcold situation that we could steer folks to if they have not heard?

I agree! There are a huge group of rv's that have no idea about any recall. The facility where we store our coach also has a 200 site campground. When we went to get her out of winter hibernation there was a burnt 5th wheel sitting in one of the sites. Anyone want to guess the cause? You bet, it was the fridge.
I sent the manager a couple of links to the recalls and he printed & posted them in the community room of the rv park.

Anyone who buys a used RV should notify the mfg and register with them. This way they'll get the recall notices mailed to them . If the RV mfg. is no longer in bus., then they should notify each supplier ie: Norcold , Ford ( or whoever) , furnace , air cond. microwave etc. That's the only way I know of to be sure.

Interestingly enough Cliff, I am registered with both Fleetwood and Norcold and I've yet to get any notifications concerning recalls.

Therein is a problem Ernie, a lot of these folks don't have a computer. I know its hard to believe because for some of us its hard to imagine being without our computer and for others they wouldn't have a computer. I would guess that less than 50% of rv'ers actually have a computer. That means thousands and thousands are out there uninformed and this time ignorance may not be blissful.
To answer you question Ernie, yes there are links. I just Googled "Norcold recall" and got about 52,600 results.

IMHO, most RVers don't read RV forums.

I too was registered with Fleetwood & Norcold. I am the original owner of my DP. I had never received a recall. Two months ago, a lady was having the high temp recall done on her Norcold. She had the same model and make as mine. I called Norcold & was told to turn off the refrigerator and store the contents in a ice chest for the three weeks untill the recall part could be shipped to me. I asked why I had not been notified by mail, etc. earlier. Her answer was that they were behind schedule. So in the meantime, I'm supposed to sit around and twiddle my thumbs while my motorhome and LIFE is in danger of burning. I wonder just how many units have really burned without anyone knowing the real cause of the fire. I'm sure the Insurance company's would love to know what caused the fire, that way they could go after Norcold & Dometic. Btw I also saw the above mentioned 5th wheel fire that was in the park at Wilderness Lakes in Menifee,CA

I know we're trying and will continue , but at the end of the day you know who helps those who help themselves.
There are MH magazines that post these recalls and library's that have free access to computers.
I liked the idea about mentioning it to campground office staff to spread the word to those for whatever reasons previously discussed in this thread didn't get to the uninformed.

Regarding the comment about waiting 3 weeks for the dealer to get the Norcold parts in.....
If you need to get the recall done, and are reasonably close to the Myrtle Beach SC area, call Roger at Camping Connections. (843) 238-3329 (formerly Grand Strand RV)
Instead of waiting for nocold to ship the parts, they have a revolving supply of kits. I was able to call one day and show up 2 days later to get it done. 20 minutes in and out. Good folks.
They also have a location near Kissimmee FL. (407) 397-2267

I had the last(?) recall done in late November, 2010. Yesterday I received the letter from Norcold announcing the recall.
So far, the fix is working for us, but we have only been on one short trip this year. We didn't have the refer turned on at all after the recall fix until a couple of weeks ago. At first, when it was supposed to transfer from AC to LP, it would not do so. We got a "no ac" code. After a phone call to our tech we checked to be sure the "auto" function was on (it was not). We turned "auto" on and it worked fine switching from one to the other.
