New coach on order and it has an RV QG 5500 Onan Generator.
Are the oil filters on them the same across the board or do I need a model/ser number to get the filter number? I have a cummins dealer nearby, I called them but the guy said he needed a model and serial to find it. Isn't it the same across the same model generator?
I may be pressed for time after delivery and I may have to get the break in done right away and as I usually do, an oil and filter change ASAP so if I can I would get it before hand so I wouldn't end up wasting an hour getting to and from the parts counter.

Didn't see that model, but this is where I get our filters from.

Thanks for that link I think it has HGJAB as per the website for the generator description but I can't find the spec number. I'll have to pick a few and see if the filters come up the same...

edit: Very nice, both the efi and the carb version use a #1220836 oil filter with all the different spec numbers... so it looks like I am good to go with that.

You can also use Wix filter 57398, I buy them from our local Bennett auto supply.

Here are the cross references I found for the 122-0836 filter.

Oil Filter
  • Mobil M1-102
  • Fram PH3614
  • STP S3614

Thanks all. I bought two at the cummins place for 18.74 with tax. So that sounds like the right filter then. The guy said no problem swapping it out for another if need be. they charge you extra for the onan green
I'll have to jot the other numbers down in my book for later reference just in case I am not near a cummins dealer when I have to do an oil change.

You may need the filter hex socket to remove the filter. On my 5500 I need to buy one to fit into the small space to break it loose.

Ditto on the wrench to remove the filter on the Onan and on everything else I list below.

Car Quest's number for their premium (Wix) oil filter is 84398. The last three digits are the same as NAPA's.

I use this same oil filter on a John Deere lawn tractor and on a Clubman, gas golfcart when up in Maine in the summer time- Been using them for years .

Since the generator will be under warranty, stick with the Onan filters. If there are any problems there will be only one place to point a finger to --Onan.
