Oil Pressure Concern

Looking at the "Oil Pressure" gauge at the displayed different speeds, there is almost no change in the oil pressure.

If my oil tank is filled up, do I have a problem?????

oil guage concern

The gauge should move. At idle should be low (10 +/-) and at speed should be at middle of gauge range 45 (+/-). Is oil at normal on dip-stick. Engine quiet when running? If so, gauge is probably faulty. PIA to remove, but I would check current to gauge.

As long as the reading is within the normal range marks, and it is, all is well.

It may drop a bit at idle and climb at speed but the gauge is slow to react, by design.

At high RPMs, the relief valve will control the pressure, so it doesn't go to high.

My oil pressure goes down to around 30 psi when idling and around 50 psi at highway speeds.

TWINBOAT, missed that his oil pressure gauge does not move at idle or at highway speeds. I would check gauge for electrical power. Maybe just a broken line or sending unit.

Long Island Mac, missed that he is driving 19 MPH and then 69 MPH, not idling.

What RPM do you figure the engine is running at 19 MPH ?
Probably in second or third gear.

To the Original Poster, you say the gauge doesn't move much, can you give us a picture of your gauge, stopped at idle ?

Here is a picture of my Aladdin readout showing the PSI for my oil pressure:

Also, my oil dipstick shows my oil level at just above the "fill" mark which will require about 8 quarts to fill. Since the oil is very dirty anyway, I've decided to get an oil change on my way home (in several days).

Just so you know being slightly low on oil level at the dip stick has no relationship to oil pressure at the gauge or Aladdin screen. The gauge is not a way to check oil level in the engine........

digital readout good. Needle gauge looks to me that it does not move at varying speeds. Digital readout best. I still think gauge is not working.

You actually run 8 quarts low on oil?

Yes you can run 8 qts low when your system holds 14 gallons like these do. I too was concerned about the low oil pressure when I first got my coach until I read on a Cummins forum that these behemoths don't carry very high oil pressure in the first place. I think 38 is about the maximum pressure. Your gauge may be the culprit if it doesn't ever change, (cold start, hot idle etc). Probably a good idea to have it serviced anyway as opposed to adding oil. How many miles do you have on that oil if you don't mind me asking? I have my coach serviced every year and I come close to 5-6,000 miles and the oil has only been down about a quarter inch on the dipstick which is probably 2 quarts.

Only had coach for about two months. EVERYTHING on this coach is new to me.

I'm planning on getting the oil changed in several days (the oil is almost black!!) - on my way home. But WOW, the "8 Gal" oil and filter change plus an chassis lub is about $350!!!!!!

Actually the oil capacity of your ISX is 14 gal. Oil color is not a good indicator as oil in a diesel turns black in just a few hundred miles.
