OK to use slightly lower CCA chassis batteries?

Hello,

I need to replace the two chassis/starting batteries in my 2011 Fleetwood with the 360HP Cummins 6.7L.

Specs call for a 1000 CCA and 185 RC. Finding that exact replacement is proving to be tough and expensive.

I'm wondering if I can get away with 2 950 CCA and a 175 RC replacement batteries. They are about $75 less expensive for each and available near my home.

We don't do any freezing weather camping,

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Just my opinion but, how much does $150 spread over say 6+ years make? $25/year? The larger battery will outlast the smaller one and definitely give better starting capability.

Is the 1000 CCA at 0 degrees? I'm really shocked that the ISB spec is for 2 1000 CCA batteries. My 10.8 ISM specs 2 950CCA batteries.

Well, you can certainly try it, if they don't work then you'll still need the larger batteries.
My ISX spec's 2 8-D AGM's but came from the factory with four 925 CCA no maintenance batteries. I got new batteries from a local CAT dealer for about $80 each.

Thanks for the input so far. I hear your point on lifetime value however we likely won't keep the coach that long.

I'm in Dallas and battery prices must just be high here. The Cat Dealer wants $205 a battery!

Try the phone book and look for mom and pop or independent sellers.

Usually under the used section as the "big boys" do not waste time there.

Companies that sell used batteries cater to a different market and often sell wide range for much less.

They use same local warehouse as others.

Our last ones were 8D priced way less than Sams and date code was a month after we got them where the sams ones were 9 months old and had lower cca.

Cat does not make batteries do they are branded cat by some manufacturer.
