2003 Onan RV Inverter-Charger
Equinox Series HJBAA
Model #3HJBAA-3202B or 3.0HJBAA
SN: A040597401

Hello-

We have a custom built 2004 Roadmaster motorhome on a Sterling truck chassis that we bought from an auction. The builder went out of business.

I wanted to see if anyone has had this issue and what they had to do.

Our inverter-charger is not letting AC input pass through the inverter-charger to the AC loads. Whether we are plugged in or if the generator is on, the coach does not have AC power. If I turn the Inverter on it will run until the batteries get too low then turn off. The batteries are only getting charged when the coach motor is on.

In the manual it says to have it serviced. The problem is we are on the road and don't have time to make an appt. We pull in to Washougal, WA on Thursday and will be parked until Sunday. (to work out of the trailer we tow). The trailer still get power from the coach because it doesn't go through the inverter.

My husband spoke with a mobile RV guy and he said he can bypass it so we would either have shore power or generator. The problem is our coach doesn't have propane and our refrigerator runs off electric through the inverter. And we usually are never plugged in when we are at our events. (We work at ATV/MC off road races). And I don't want to run the generator 24/7.

Just wondering what your thoughts were as I sit in our mh with no power. (I turned on the motor for a bit so I could get hot water just to take a shower. We have an Aqua Hot heating system that runs off a diesel motor- but wired through the inverter.

The service centers in Southern Utah have been terrible so we might have to take it to Vegas to get it fixed. Does everyone like camping world? Or should I try an RV service place with good reviews.

I'll try and post a pic. It look like a lot of work just to replace it.

Thanks!

Have you checked to see if it is receiving AC?

True story:

My Xantrex was getting AC in, but no AC out. Well, when I got to trouble shooting I found a connection had come loose and the inverter was putting out AC just fine,, It was going no where fast. Fixed the loose wire and all was good.

Same thing can happen on the AC IN side,, in fact, it has the exact same type of connection on my Xantrex.

There is a reset button on the front of the inverter. It is a reset for AC into the box.
With no AC connected, gen or shore power, firmly push the reset button. It it clicks you have found your problem.
The Xantrex inverters have the same setup.

There is no reset button. There is an inverter on/off button and a charger on/off button.

I'm assuming there's no AC going into it because the AC light doesn't come on. And the fan doesn't come on anymore either.

You first said that there is no AC being passed and in this post you say there is no AC going in. Have to checked to see if there is AC going into the inverter?

The white button to the left of the + icon. In your pic it is covered up by the white hose. See the pic here:

Okay I'm sorry. I guess I wouldn't know if AC is coming in or not. Just that it's not going through and the AC input light does not come on.

There is a white button with a 30 on it that says Transformer circuit breaker. But it does nothing when pushed.

But we just had a mobile RV guy come and told us the AC circuit board is bad. And we can't get it fixed up here in WA.
So my husband is going to have him install a converter to bypass the inverter. Ugh.

Thanks everyone.
