Onan 4KW

The generator in the coach we just purchased has 1,071 hours on the meter. I would guess that the head has not been removed and cleaned as suggested by the maintenance information. Is this something that REALLY needs to be done, or??? I changed the spark plug ( it needed replacing) as well as changing the air filter. There was a film of oil on the inside of the filter housing and on the ends of the filter. I am not sure if this is an indication of an upcoming problem or not.

Here is the manual found in sticky above. If you have not experienced any problems I'd say no. It does say 650 hrs though have no idea how much work or cost for you.

Thanks for the input. I have the manual. That information is what got me asking for input. I will not do anything as long as the unit generates. Long gone are the days of "tearing it apart" just because I can.
I am looking for other folks experiences with the unit. Maybe they go a long time with mininal maintenance.

Change the spark plugs (2), In the top center of engine is a hose I believe that goes to a crankcase vent. remove the screen and clean and replace. It is easy and it wont burn oil like it probably does now.
