Onan 5.5 gen starts but won't run

Hi all ! First post here . Looks like a great place. I am helping an 82 year old friend who has a problem with his onboard generator. It is an Onan 5.5HGJAB-901D gas generator in an Allegro motor home.
It primes fine and cranks and starts fine but immediately after startup it dies as if the ignition is turned off. It has new fuel and air filters and has proper oil levels and lots of fuel in the tank. I tested the oil pressure switch and is in working order. I really believe it the be ignition that is shutting it down as even with some either it will not continue to run. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Terb095

Not sure about that model but most need to "see" voltage being generated or they shut down. We had a Generac unit that the stator lost it's magnetism and I had to apply 12 V to a plate on top of the case to re-energize it.
Have you tried to see if any voltage is being seen by the controls?
