onan 5000 watt generator

I have a 1997 onan generator and it will not start from the dash switch. it will start and runs good from the generator switch , however not from the dash. checked and found there is no 12 volt power from the generator to the switch. there are four white wires and one black but unable to test as power not out.

my motorhome is a 1997 fleetwood 35 s gas engine and generator.

any assistance would be greatly assistance.

Mine did the exact same thing Labor Day weekend. I have an Onan BGE 4K.

Near the start switch on the generator, there is a wiring harness. The yellow wire was broken. This is the wire on mine that operates the dash mounted remote switch.

I crimp spliced it back and that did it.

First, I pulled the switch out of the dash to make sure the wire had not came off the back of the switch.

I hope this helps!

On mine the 12V comes from the fuse panel under the dash, goes to the genset dash switch then down to the generator.

I had a similar problem with the wiring that rvc123 did...but in my case it was a broken connection down at the genset, on the control circuit board. The wire was connected OK, but the pin on the control board had corroded through and open circuited. Had to solder a jumper wire over to a good pin on the connector and move the wire/pin up to an unused position.
