Onan 5500 generator

I am having problems with my Onan 5500. When u push the start button it will run till you let off of it then it stops running. We have put a new computer board in it, cleaned the carberator, and checked the fuel pump. Does anyone else have any idea of what we can do to try and fix this problem?

Thanks

Oil level low or no electrical output.

Make sure the oil is full to the to the full line.

Has it sat for a while ? Hold the start button for 30 seconds or so to keep it running. Sometimes the brushs are dirty.

I just replaced the voltage regulator in mine for the same problem. First thing you want to do is ohm the brushes to make sure they are making good contact with the slip rings. There is a lot of good information on flight systems website, troubleshooting guides and test procedures.

Check to see if your slip rings are turning. Its where the brushes connect at. If it isn't turning you are gonna need a new belt or coupler. It happened to me last month.
