Onan 5500 Generator won't stay running

i have a Onan 5500 Generator in a 2008 Fleetwood 32V class A Southward.
i am guilty of not running the Gen every month and now it will start but only
will run about 5 min before shutting down. i just added 3 CANS 0F
"Seafoam", and it still shut down. guess i will wait a while before trying again.

Also, i noticed the start button on the generator itself was blinking 3 times
after each failed start try?
Any help would be appreciated before i call a repair facility

thank you in advance Denny McGov

Sounds like fuel? I changed my pump and filter (a relatively easy job) and all was well. May need to clean carb?

Not sure about the 08 model, but the 16 is easy to get to and right up underneath,

Also the blinking indicates a code? Check your manual for the designation of the flashed.

Had a very similar problem. The fuel pump was bad and I had it replaced. Also the needle valve in the carb was gummed up. Once that was cleaned it runs as good as it always has run.

Fuel pump
Low oil level causing the oil level sensor to kick in.

Having same problem, appears to be slip rings needing cleaned, low voltage. 3 blinks is a fault code and you will have to press the stop/prime button to get the main code. Check page 34 of the cummins/onan service manual for more info, then research the specific code. Mine is code 13 ( under voltage) Keith

I had a 2002 Southwind with the same problem. Electric fuel pump would overheat and shut down. Diagnosed by rigging a gravity feed from portable tank. You can buy pump on Amazon and install yourself.

Clean the carb, there are videos on youtube. Start there...also change the oil to make sure it's got the full 2qts. I chased mine for about a month, after cleaning the carb...its been running strong for a year.

Three blinks...pause..then 3 more blinks: Its saying there is a two digit error fault code... when you see the 3 blinks press the prime/stop on the switch then it will give you the actual fault code
