onan Emerald plus 4000

I have search internet trying to find how to remove and replace the starter on my onan. I can't find anything not even where it is located on the generator. I know its probably on the back side and I'm sure there is no way to get to it without removing it from the coach. It is mounted in 1998 Four Winds class C, My problem is it will not crank (turn over) I have cleaned all battery/frame connections , I can hear the solenoid trying, But I want to get to the starter to check it out. Anyone can help on this? Wanted to try fixing this myself before taking it to a repair shop. thanks

Can you climb under. Mine sets on rails but the bottom is all open. I can get to mine from underneath. On the far side bottom of the engine side. I take that back,I think its between engine and genny. Anyway you can see it. Talk about old-timers disease I just had it out 2 weeks ago.

Timmer594, were you able to remove the starter from underneath? I need to find out what starter I would need if I have to replace it. I seen some new onan starters on Ebay and Amazon for $40.40 ,

No, I had to remove the darn thing to replace a bearing. But I think it could be done.

Also. I have a Cummings dealer nearby. I would get parts straight from them. Tampa.
