I have an Onan Marquis Gold 5500 generator. I have not had any issues with it until today. I don't use it a lot but try to exercise it regularly. Today I started it up but can not get it to connect to the appliances. The only thing I see is that the microwave display is lit but the microwave itself won't start, or the air conditioner.
Again, it's running fine, just no power where it needs to be.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Right on the generator beside the start/stop switch is the main breaker for the power that the generator produces. It may have tripped off.

I did check those breakers. I even switched them off then on. No luck.

Thanks.

Have you checked your Inverter breakers, & all GFI breakers?

I have checked all of the breakers I know of. I may be missing some. After more looking I have found that the microwave is working and four other outlets have power. The other outlets have no power and the air conditioner does not turn on.
My guess is that the 20 amp circuit is working but the 30 amp is not. I am not knowledgable about how the two circuits work to come off of the generator separately. Does the generator power both circuits from same place or are there two parts to the generator. Sounds like something I should know, but don't.
I'm thinking that maybe the one breaker may be bad but I'm not sure how to test that. Any other thoughts? ideas?

Thanks.

Yes. I had a chance to check that last night. All was well with shore power.

If everything is working properly on shore power, then one of the generator circuits must not be working. The generator has two breakers, two 110V circuits. A breaker could be bad. The output cable from the generator should go into a junction box, where you could check the two circuits for 120 Voltage.

Could it be in the automatic transfer switch? It appears the 30 amp circuit is working and the 20 amp is not. Does the transfer switch transfer both together or is it two separate transfers where it is allowing one of the circuits to transfer but not the other?

Are you sure you have an ATS? Also, if you don't...here's a question I have to ask- don't be offended....have you plugged the shore power cord into the j-box before you put the gen. on line?

Your ATS does have two feeds. I believe you will find one set of points are bad. There is also the possibility of a burned wire in the auto transfer switch.

Not offended at all. Wouldn't be the first time I needed the obvious pointed out. But in this case, there is an ATS. It has worked fine in the past, just not now. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks. I figured it must have. All of my best sleuthing has it as the ATS or the breaker. I should go out with a meter and try to figure which one but all I keep reading has me afraid to touch the ATS or to at least up my life insurance first.
