My 1994 Itasca Suncruiser has sat all winter without much attention. I did have power on the unit so the coach batteries stayed charged. tried to start the Onan 5BGEFA26100K generator. Did not want to fire.Disconnected the line to the fuel filter and then removed the filter. There was very little fuel in this area. I then put it all back together. I had heard references to depressing the stop switch for about 20-30 seconds to prime the unit. I activated the stop switch on the generator itself. I could not hear any sounds from the fuel pump. I then broke the connection to the fuel pump and put the pump lead to the 12 VDC input to the generator. I then heard the pump making a sort of clicking sound which did not change frequency during the period I had the connection made which was about 15-20 seconds. It still would not start. Came back to it later and then it started and ran for about 2 minutes before stopping
It seemed as though the starter was not picking up each time I hit the start switch. I cold hear the starter solenoid click. I then found a loose positive connection on the coach battery. Cleaned that up and then started the unit after priming the generator as I described above. The unit ran for about 5 minutes, started surging and then stopped.
Tried it again this AM and all I get is the click of the started solenoid. Coach batteries are fully charged. I measure 12 VDC to the generator and when I press the start switch the voltage drops to 6-7 volts. It would appear that the starter is not rotating.
I am thinking that in addition to a preceived fuel pump problem there may be a problem with the starter. My next step is to place a fully charged 12 Volt battery directly to the generator and rule out a bad connection somewhere.
I realize I should have exercised the unit throughout the winter.

I would appreciate it if anybody who had the patience to read this tale of woe might have some words of advice.

Check to be sure you do not have a bad ground to teh generator as well as a positive cable. Be sure you have more than 1/4 tank of fuel. If you can get it to run some include some carburator and injector cleaner in the fuel. The bowl and fuel mixture valve could be cummed up from not using the genset and letting fuel sit in it for a long period of time. Next time include some Stabil in the fuel and run the genset for a 1/2 hour to ensure it has gotten into the carburator. Good luck and let us know the results.
