Onan Generator stalls...

Troubleshooting my gas Onan Marquis Gold 7.0 Kw genset. It will start immediately if I prime it for about 20-30 seconds and will run for about 2 minutes and then starts to die like it's not getting gas. If I prime it again immediately it runs for a shorter time and then shuts down.

I have changed fuel filter (originally two filters but Onan replaced one at carb with an adapter-so it only has one before the fuel pump) and made sure that the tank is about half full-enough to be above the pickup line for the genset.

I also pulled the hose off the carb and with the start switch set to prime, the fuel pump sounds like it's working and pumps gas to the carb (I don't know if it's enough). I have no idea if it's working while the genset is actually running.

when the genset shuts down I get a fault code
ENGINE STOPPED FAULT CODE - 36
(Engine stopped without command from controller)

So, any ideas? Do I really need to put more gas in the tank? Could it be that the fuel pump isn't working while the generator is running? Open to all suggestions.

I've got the same problem with my 5500 Onan. I think it's varnish in the carb jets. I had an angioplasty just before Christmas and didn't get out to the RV to exercise the generator once a month, like you should. It sat from late October until early May without being run.

We're not travelling this season until our overseas visitors leave second week of September, so I'll be messing with it until then when I have a chance. A more seasoned RV neighbor said to get gas with a higher than normal strength of carb cleaner though it and also to spray aerosol carb cleaner through the carb intake while it's running the few seconds after it lights off.

I discovered, hidden in the depths of the owner's manual, that the carb has a float bowl drain screw. I'll certainly use it this season end.

Onan 5000 Emerald Plus Series only 65vac

I have an Onan 5000 Emerald Plus Series with only 63 hours on it. The system runs for a couple of minutes putting out only about 65vac. Governor never adjust for any load, then about 1 minute into it seems like system is overheating sputters and stalls. Thanks for any help.
