Onan generator will not fire

I tired to start my onon diesel generator a few weeks ago on a warm (er) day. It would run for a few seconds than stop. After maybe 5 attempts would not fire at all. Just tried again, it will only crank.
1. fuel issue?
2. where is the best place to take it? small tractor repair, Cummins?

If you could post the Onan Model # it would help forum members.

1. Do you have better than 1/4 tank of diesel fuel.
2. Have you disconnected all significant electrical loads before you tried to start generator? Such as Heat Pumps, Hot Water Heaters, etc.
2. Do you have your owner's manual for the generator. It should have trouble shooting sections where you can pull trouble codes by watching the generator status light blink in a coded fashion. For example a code code 23 indicates a Low Oil Pressure Cutoff switch fault.

If you feel more comfortable take it to a Cummins Service Center or a good RV technician ( in a shop or mobile.) Word of mouth recommendations or forum members recommendations.

Where are you located now. Important for recommendations.

Good Luck!

Here is a link to your owner's manual.
www.cumminsonan.com/www/pdf/manuals/981-0161.pdf
Read it and start your generator with the generator located Control Switch/ Status Light visible. This should be to the left of your hour meter.

Watch the number of blinks on shutdown to determine the First level shut-down code. One blink indicated shut down due to high temperature. Two blinks indicates a shut down due to a loss of oil pressure. Three Blinks indicates a shut down due to some other abnormal condition. Follow the manual's troubleshooting guidance if you get a one blink or a three blink to get the second level Codes.

Good Luck!

thank you all....
I put it through the start up process to see what the blinking lights would disclose....it must of heard me cussing ....it started up!!! It is above 55 degrees here so maybe that was it needed. Oil level showed full. I'll let it run a hour or so. How my new chassis batteries were to low to crank the engine.... but the generator should change them as well as the house batteries. this is my first MH.... lot to learn!

My generator only charges the house batteries.

However using the boost switch, which ties the house battery to the chassis battery, usually gets my engine going with the generator running when the chassis battery is low.
