I have searched both RV sights, on what has to happen in order
to change the S/P in the Marquis Gold, the ones in a cabinet.
Some say does not have to be dropped, some say remove 2 front
bolts, some the two rear bolts????
I cannot get my hand between the cabinet and the genset to even
feel the plug or plug wire.
So will dropping the Onan remove the genset from the cabinet??
I dont think so!!!
If someone would come around and give me 3 semester hrs. in
Gonad plug removal, I would be most appreciate!!!!!
And next time I can do it myself.....HELP THE OLD VOLUNTEER!!!

Clay, I found that post, and did use my t-handle on the front plug.
The T-handle I use to remove the harley plugs, and it broke at the "T".
(cheap ^%*$# ship)
So with a better "T" I can overcome that.
BUT the rear plug (if there is one)I can not even TOUCH the plug wire,
because I cant get my hand between the cabinet and genset!!!!!!!
I can work in a blind hole, but first I have to remove the plug wire,
and the front wire was a bit difficult to remove....
I am going to plan B, Let me see????
TENN.

My plugs are not yet due for replacement so I have not tried to get my hand back where the plug is supposed to be and did not realise how tight it is.
I saved the message I refered you to thinking that the answer was there, but the problem must be tougher than I thought.
I wonder if some units have different size enclosures?

Clay, MY bad, or my DA. I was thinking, (something I am ill equipped to do)
that the hidden plug was BEHIND the plug on the right. Dont know where I
came up with that though???
I just found the second plug to the left side and to the right of the brush
block. Which I had change at about 450hr. as one brush was close to min. spec.
Sorry for the trouble, and thanks for trying to help a DA!!
I dont think it will be any trouble to change, but will get back after the
fact. I am going to replace with platinum, (NGK--BPR5EV) once I see what the
old plugs look like???TENN.VOL.

Don't feel bad, TENN-VOL. After looking at the innards of my gen dozens of times I, too, thought both cylinder heads pointed to the right. Wondered how much it was going to cost me to have that "inside" plug replaced. Just last week I "discovered" the other plug pointing to the left. Should be an easy job with a flex extension.
Now, tell me about brush block replacement. My unit has almost 600 hrs. Where do I get brushes, and how hard is it for the DIY'er?
My Onan Oper Man says have the heads removed and cleaned at 450 hrs. Has anyone done this, and how much does it cost?

I got her done!!!!!Easy AFTER I found the other plug,DA!
Took the rubber out of the center of the 13/16 socket,
and used a 13/16 wrench on the end of the SPARK PLUG
SOCKET!!!! Took me longer to find the antiseize and
the electric grease than to replace both plugs.
Both plugs were rather sooted up, maybe up a couple
of number hotter plugs??? 577hrs. on GEN...
Oh BANDCWORKHORSE, I shotgunned the block and brushes
as they came in a kit, remove and replace.
Im thinking $22 or $24!!!!Use the eraser on a wood
pencil, while I cranked the genset, then shot a little
NON-FLAMMIABLE brake cleaner while I cranked the gen.
to clean armature!
I cleaned my old ONAN 4000 gen. with some combustion
cleaner I purchased from ONAN.
Cut power at 30amp. C/B, took filter off and sprayed
contents of can into carb. till it almost dies,(while
jocking the throttle, to keep engine alive) as I
remember it. Then toward the bottom of can, overload
with the contents till the engine dies and let it soak
for some specified time!!! Thats as I member! TENN.VOL.

This has been a real interesting discussion as I had no idea my MG 5.5K had 2 plugs. I replaced the obvious one when I took ownership about three years ago. I will be replacing the other real soon.
Thanks!
