I picked up an ONAN wireless GENSET starter at the Tampa Show to use mostly for when we leave the coach early in the AM at a parking lot etc. to start the genset for the airconditioner once it gets hot so it does not have to run all day. It sounded great, but we ran into a problem in that as soon as the generator came on line the a/c would go on line
and bog the generator down since it was not warmed up and create a fault that shut the genset down. (apparently the built in delay in the a/c is when you change modes - if you leave it in one mode the delay does not work)

I was looking for power management system (surge/low-high voltage etc protection and came across the Progressive Industries EMS. It has a built in 2 min. 16 second delay from the time it receives power until it lets power through. I wired it downstream from my transfer switch so now the wireless getset starts the genset, the EMS samples the power produced for 2 min. 16 sec. while the genset warms up and then the a/c powers up.

Works great - problem solved.

I was looking at the wireless start at GNR and the Onan engineer said that a delay for the AC was programmable in the starter.

I put it in myself - with the proper adapter cord, you just disconnect one plug fitting, insert the adapter and plug the original disconnected cable and one from the wireless starter control box and one wire to the B+ connector.

Except for mounting the box (4 screws) you could literally connect it in 5 minutes or less. The harnesses are indexed so you can't plug them in wrong.

If it is, it was not documented in the manual, and I don't know how that would work since I don't think the wireless starter controls when the output of the generator goes on line - but rather just the starting and access codes. Generally the transfer switch sends the power to the house and therefore to the a/c as soon as the generator starts.

The manual was the one part that was less than good with the system. The manual included with mine was a rough draft basically - a bunch of pages staples together and some of the info was incorrect. hopefully they have fixed it.

I'm happy with mine the way I have it now, but I'll have to check with ONAN on that delay. It sure should have one.
