oven wont heat up

i have a magic chef stove and oven in my 2000 southwind, the last time we went to use the oven it would not heat up. so i put in a tempature gage in it turned it up to 450. 45 min. later it was still at 250. didnt seem to want to go any higher. has anyone had this problem before, just want to check before i spend 180 dollars on a new thermastat thanks

Fortunately the oven is a very simplistic device.

Is the capillary tube (sensor) still in it's holding bracket? (should be on the back wall)

The temp knob is keyed so it only goes on one way, but I've seen those little tabs break and the knob/temp position is way off it's setting.

Do you have good bluish flame?

Even though it's not the correct temp, does it cycle on and off at 250°?

Did you use a manometer to test the gas pressure on the output side of the burner?
(should be around 10-12 inches water column)

We could not get our Magic Chef to heat up either. Hardly ever used. After putting a oven thermometer in it I played around with the temperature knob and found it was calibrated backwards. Hot reading was actually colder temps and vice versa. Left the gauge in it and put a sign on front reminding wife "Hot is Cold" She still does not use it, we do use a toaster oven (their electricity, not our propane).
