We just had our first outing in our 2005 Revolution. On Saturday morning, wanted to bake bread in the oven (never had a real oven in our last RV). After reading the instructions, I took a butane striker and lit the oven pilot and then set the oven temp to desired temp to pre-heat. The oven worked great...good bread.
On Sunday morning, tried to light pilot again to bake something and while the pilot would light momentarily, when I went to turn temp to desired setting, the pilot would go out. No amount of playing with it would work. I finally decided to use the convection oven instead.
What do you think is wrong? Is there something else that I should try next time?
Thanks in advance.
Faith

Do the top burners work? If so, then I'd check the thermocouple in the oven. It can weaken after a while.
Good luck

How do I check the thermocouple? IS this something that I can do myself or should I take it to a service center? I do not want to blow myself and my new coach up...
Thanks
Faith

The thermocouple looks like this:

It is the part that the flame is heating. If it fails the pilot won't stay lit because it is a safety mechanism that keeps a supply valve open for the propane.
It is not expensive and not too difficult to replace.
I know it is obvious but you have plenty of propane and the burners on the top work ok?

Many of the ovens that I worked on in this period, had a had an accellerator on them. In other words when you turned on the oven to say 300 deg. the piolet would go real high and heat a sensor that would open the gas valve. You need to get a flashlight and light the pilot. Let it stabelize for a couple of minutes. Then watch the flame with the flashlight as you turn up the oven dial. if the pilot light stays on before you turn up the dial, the thermocouple is ok. If it goes out when you turn up the dial the accelerator is bad.

I just filled the propane tank (although it was only reading half-full on the gauge...but technician said that it would not take any more...but that is another issue...) and I was able to get all of the stove top burners to operate on high, medium, and low flame settings...
I will try to light the pilot again tomorrow and after a few seconds try to turn the temp of the oven up to see what happens...
Thanks again for your tips. I will let you know how it goes...

Thanks to all who posted suggestions for my pilot light problem. I had an RV tech look at it last weekend and he discovered that the problem is with the control knob on the stove. When he removed the knob and turned the metal rod, the flow of propane was there to accept a flame. Evidently, the problem was that the plastic knob was unable to make the rod turn. The plastic knob is not gripping the metal rod tightly enough. The technician suggested a very small adjustment to the interior of the knob's opening so that it will grip the rod a little tighter to facilitate the pushing and turning motion necessary to light the pilot. I am glad that the problem was so easy to solve.
Thanks again for all of your suggestions. You are all great!!!
