Anyone had any experience with these? How necessary are they? We are fairly new full-timers and I am wondering if this is something that is necessary or maybe just "nice to have" type thing. $300 bucks

Some places have power problems so you will be happy you have one. Most places don't seem to be an issue so it's moot. I can always go to dry camping mode of the power is bad. YMMV. I do carry a good DMM and have a line monitor I can use if I think I need it.

We been using one since we started fulltiming ten years ago. I've lost count of the times it has saved us. We started with a hard wired one. When we purchased our last RV we went with the portable. I like being able to check the RV site prior to setting up. If it has bad power you can move to another one hopefully.
