Portable Generator for TT
Curious as to what others have done to set-up generators for their travel trailers. What models recommended? Locations to mount them easier than running off the ground? Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated....
Thanks-----

There is two ways to do it. Go cheap and have anyone you camp around give you a dirty look when they see you, or get a Honda and have lots of friends. Cheap and loud, or expensive and quiet.
I don't really think you can put a portable gen inside a compartment or build it in and be safe. Most people put it in the truck bed locked up and set it out locked up. Under the Rv can keep it dry in the rain. I've seen a few people bring a small plastic doghouse to keep it dry.
Good luck

To do it right, you'll need a metal lined cabinet, wiring, provisions for air flow, fuel supply, and most importantly an exhaust system that won't kill you and your family with carbon monoxide poisoning. Or just set a portable in the back of your truck and plug your shore line into it.

I have a champion 2000w inverter generator that runs everything but our ac. We have had it for three years and it is very quite and reliable. One word of advise is try before you buy if you are looking for a gen that will run your air and other electronics. Inverter generators are more expencive then regular generators but the quite factor makes up for the cost and much happier neightbors.

I like that idea, sounds like I need a good local fabricator to try and put something together for permanent use.
Thanks...

I have seen some champion units at the local Camping World. Been looking around and also have found that besides Honda there are some portable units from Yamaha and Generac that are showing up now. Honda seems to have the reputation and price maybe some of these are not too bad??

This Powerhouse pure sine wave inverter generator will power your AC and also has remotes for on/off.

We carry a pair of the Honda EU2000i and the parallel kit.
Best price was from Wise Equipment.
With the Honda EU series or the equivalent Yamaha, you can find parts and service pretty much any where. Some of the Chinese - so called quiet - generators are pretty much throw aways as service is difficult yo find.

X2 on the tandem Hondas. Got enough throwaway stuff already.

Now there's an idea I haven't thought of. I have a brand new Honda 2000 sitting in a box. I thought I could run it from my truck to my trailer and be safe from exhaust. I have an extension cord. The dog house, however, sounds like a great idea--do you run a chain around it and lock it onto the truck?

How about a PVC frame with some sort of canvas cover sewn on or snap on. Would be lite and protect the gen from weather....

Another good idea. I haven't read the manual, yet, but I wonder if the generator needs some "breathing room" around it while it's running.
