I use this extend a stay product to enable the use of an external outside 40 lb tank while staying at a campground for a long period.

While the hose that connects to the external tank with the usual and required fitting is fine, I would like to add a in-line shut off valve at the hose end which attaches to the manifold adapter at the motorhome internal tank. The valve would have to accommodate the 1/4 inch male threaded inverted flare fitting on the hose and the 1/4 inch female inverted flare fitting on the manifold. The use of properly threaded bushing and couplers would be acceptable if needed.

The intent of this valve is to avoid loss of propane or air entering the line while exchanging or filling the external tank...accidental loss of propane at the motorhome is dangerous.

I have searched all local propane suppliers, and places like Tractor Supply with no luck.

If I'm "reading you" right, all you need to do is use a short piece of tubing flared at both ends and attach the valve to that. I don't know if they even make an inverted flare fitting to adapt a valve directly to the existing fitting...

Inverted flared fittings assure no propane leakage...flared tubing does not match up and then there is the problem of the coupling nut or cap matching the thread...I have been down that road. If I could even find a suitable shut off valve it would be a start.

First there are two kinds of Extend-a-Stay.. Genuine article and "Knock offs" or imitation.

If you have a Genuine Extend a stay there is a check valve in that fitting, propane flows only one way, INTO the motor home, It will not flow out the inlet, it will not flow back into the main tank, only INTO the motor home.

Changing tanks you might loose a little propane, what is in the hose, but a valve at the RV end will not prevent that.

A valve at the TANK end would.

You DO see The Beast in my Avatar?? It has a standard flare fitting for external tanks as well as an on-board tank. Sorry for the confusion/misinformation!!

Nudge.. I do not see your avatar, so I don't see the beast in it.

And for the original poster. I have a genuine Marshall brass Extend-a-stay

As I said, there is a check valve, If I remove thesafety plug from the inlet, no gas escapes, even if the main tank is full and the valve open.

The folks who built it used paranoid grade redundant safety measures. Which (being as I happen to be paranoid) I like.
