Detectors, whether they be propane, CO, or smoke, have a limited life generally stated as 5 years. I would replace the LP detector and go to Home Depot or Lowe's and purchase a combined fire/smoke/CO alarm. The LP alarm should be put near the floor since propane is heavier than air. The combined fire/smoke/CO should be mounted near the ceiling.
