Propane use? Hotwater fridge?
Hey Folks, Good Morning to all!
Can anyone tell me what might be the amount of propane I can expect to use when boondocking... here is some info on what I have. I plan on boondocking 24/7 in Quartzsite, Az on BLM land. I have a 4 year old TT. My fridge is a 7cf atwood helium. My hotwater heater is a 6 gal atwood. I am not sure what my furnance is, 30K BTU? I have (2) 20gal propane tanks that sit on tonge. My question is.. what do you think if I use propane 24/7 for fridge, and idea how much propane will I go thru in a weeks time? What about the hot water heater? Do you folks turn on/off hotwater heater when running with propane?
Thanks!

The fridge typically uses very little, when compared to the HWH which will use more, and the furnace lots--adding more blankets is cheaper and easier.
We turn on the HWH only when needed about 20-30 minutes prior to a shower and turn it off shortly after. We have found in moderate temperatures the water will remain hot, within reason, for a few hours.
Of course a lot will depend upon the weather and ambient temperatures. When do you plan to visit?

So much depends on how well insulated your rig is, how the outside temp is and how warm you like it inside.
2-20 gallon tanks? You probably have 2 20 lb tanks (5 gallon)

NOTE - I suspect you have two 20 pound tanks (four gallons) on the tongue, not 20 gallon.
While in the Phoenix area this winter, we used about 15 gallons in 4 weeks.
Furnace is our #1 consumer.
We don't run the water heater full time. When its shower time, we turn on the water heater for about ten minutes, then turn it off. Its usually hot enough so that there isn't a need to mix cold water. A Navy shower is easily had with the 6 gallons of hot water. This also conserves water.
The frig is a very small consumer. I want to say about 9k btu ???

A lot will depend on how you conserve. Keep fridge closed, don’t open the door and then decide what you want. Get it, shut it. As above turn off wh when not going to need HOT water. Luke warm water is fine for washing hands... Wear a sweater and lower the furnace setting.

Propane use? Hotwater fridge?
It’s all in the math kinda like batteries.... you get 21000 btu’s per pound of propane.
The heater is your largest draw at 30k btu. water heater is 9k, same with each stove burner and the oven burner. The fridge is about 1500 Btu’s

2 20lb propane tanks would keep my furnace happy for about 5 days in our 34' travel trailer in night time 30 degree daytime 50 degree weather. the HWH will use a little so only turn it on when needed and schedule showers and dishes to run while it is hot. Fridge uses very little.

You can easily change the 20 lb. tanks to 30 or 40 lb. tanks, but they need to be refilled rather than swapped at the convenience store. Keep the 20's for backup.
Propane liquid weighs 4.2 lbs. per gal.= 20 lb. cylinder holds almost 5 gal. when filled, but when you swap cyls. you might get 15 lbs.
