rain sensor on vent

This weekend one of the roof vents was open, and it rained. The switch was turned to sense rain. but it did not close. Question: how does this feature work? Is there a spot on top of the vent I can put water on to check the other 2 vents? I hate to open them all and turn on a water hose. Is there a better way to check?

You will find a small square printed circuit board under the lid...mine are VERY sensitive to moisture...just wet my finger and touch the board and the lid closes..it reopens when the board dries enough....you surely dont need a hose to test it...

Hi VACMAN,
I also had the same problem. By the time the sensor determined it was time to close the lid, the inside of the coach was wet. For that reason, I got rid of the Fantastic fans and purchased MAXXAIR fans for the kitchen and bathroom. After 3 years, they continue to work as advertised. Because of their design, I've never had water in the coach because of the lid being open.

Hey Gary: Our Fantastic Fans (kit. & bath) have been giving us fits as well. Had new 6600 remote installed in kit. while at Nappanee last Sept. but controller only works on low setting (Manual) and all other setting cause fan to speed up, slow down, speed up, slow down, etc. etc. Bath fan seems to have overly sensitive rain sensor which keeps opening then closing, then opening, then closing the lid even with no rain but on humid days.

So, how much are MaxxAir replacement units, and will Nappanee order and install em during our June visit if asked???

Thanks. Steve

If you look inside the lower left corner of the fan you can see the small exposed circuit board that was mentioned. An no, a water hose isn't needed to test it. Just the mist from spraying a cleaner under the dome will do it. Ensure it is not in Auto mode when cleaning to prevent trips up/down the ladder.

I have Northern Breeze fans on my unit...I also replaced the bath unit with the Maxx fan. I like the protection it provides when open and the lower height when closed. As my unit is 12ft with the vent covers down, I wanted to maintain that clearance.

My Fantastic vents are like this and also very sensitive (wet finger). Is it possible that your circuit boards was covered with a thin film that prevents them from detecting the moisture?

I never understood those Fantastic fans. Why try to use all sorts of fancy electronic trickery to close the cover when all you gotta do is put a MaxxAir type cover over the fan (or install the entire MaxxAir fan) and then you can leave the vents open even during a hurricane! Sometimes we just over-engineer things to the point of ridiculous complexity. KISS and MaxxAir are the elegantly simple solution!

Here's the model that fits over high velocity Fantastic fans. MaxxAir Vent Corp

Hi Steve,
Not to hijack the thread, but last I was told (2008) Newmar will install only what they build new coaches with. I do not think Newmar builds any coaches with MAXXAIR fans. Go to http://www.rvupgradestore.com/index....OD&ProdID=1639 to see the fan and price.

As usual I did the install myself. I used the same wires that the Fantastic Fans used.

I learned the hard way that the Fantastic Vent rain sensor only work in full automatic mode. If you have the wall control and fiddle with its many settings, more than likely the rain sensor function will be inhibited. If you just have the controls on the fan itself, the rain sensor should work all the time.

I kind of partial to the Maxx Air fans too, but this coach came with three FVs. I've got Maxx Air hoods over two of them. Can the third be far behind???
