As we prepare to leave for Quartzsite and a few days of boondocking it occurs to me that the new-to-us RC7-GS remote control may offer some convenience options.

My previous inverter/charger/remote simply had an on/off switch for the inverter. This one is programmable so that the inverter can be set to come on automatically when AC shore power and generator power are absent. Additionally, a threshold can be set to establish the minimum AC power load required to activate the inverter.

Going into the AC load search sense mode is said to significantly reduce inverter power consumption in idle or no-load/low-load conditions.

We're going to have the AquaHot running overnight (on Diesel - not electric) with no generator or shore power. My inclination is to simply turn off the inverter to reduce drain on battery charge.

Do others boondock with the inverter enabled? If so, your search sense is set to how many watts?

With the option of automatic generator start and programmable quiet time, it looks like one can set this up to keep the electrical infrastructure useable with minimal manual intervention.

Thanks,

I have left mine on 24/7 to keep microwave clock , TV programming and general backup use when connected to shore power. I am sure you will run the generator often enough to recharge the battery bank. If not, think about installing the "Auto Gen Start". This will sense the lower batter voltage and start recharging for you automatically. You can set in "quiet times" as well. Good luck, stay safe and keep us posted.

We leave the inverter on to maintain power to the clocks and some devices that stay in standby mode. There is no auto-sense level on my RC7-GS that is low enough to keep those things alive, so I just turn auto-sense off. If the batteries are real low and I can't run the genset to recharge, I just turn the inverter off.

My inverter stays on 24/7 anyway. It senses whether shore power is available and comes on if it is not. That's an inverter function, not the RC7. The inverter's built in power transfer switch handles it.

I have the RC&-GS however when off the grid, our inverter is turned off. Inverters are power hogs and I see no reason to keep all the clocks running while setting in the desert. If AC is needed for any length of time, I run the generator.
