Rear furnace pilot blows out while traveling

Just got back from an 1800 mile trip and the rear (propane) furnace kept blowing out while traveling down the road. I did notice that the exhaust vent on the side of the coach left a black streak from the rear furnace. The vent from the front furnace was clean. I am thinking that the black soot may be an indication of the problem but not sure what it is. Maybe some sort of cleaning???

Coach is a 2002 American Eagle if that helps.

It definitely needs to be cleaned and serviced. Checking the orifice, burner and ignition gap.

Is this a task that can be tackled by a novice or should I take it to a pro?

Not knowing what furnace you have can you follow instructions for this furnace located in sticky above.
If not I would take to service center for type furnace you have.
