Refer, Dometic NDA1402, Dead, Thermal Fuse
Found my refer dead this PM. No lights inside or out. The thermal fuse mounted on the side of the chimney is open. I temporarily bypassed it with a fuse and things come alive.
I have not been able to find a part number for it in any manual.
Anyone that might have a lead on the part?

3313711.000 is the number that I find. Available from Dyersonline.com I get my NDA 1402 parts from them as needed. They are very helpful.

Karl, you just saved me a Grand.
I was ready to install a residential, which I will in the future. The part is $5 and shipping is 10.
The Dometic manual did not have a part number listed and I could not find it on any sites.
This refer has been excellent for over 8 years and has plenty of life left. The ice maker has been a pain and I abandoned it and just fill the ice dispenser by hand. Other than that there is a Samsung in our future.

Myron,
Great, glad I was able to help. We are going to keep our 1402 as long as I can get parts. No problems so far. We were also considering a residential refer. My understanding, is the residential has a pan below for defrost water. Rvers I have talked to with one say the water will splash out wile traveling. I too have removed my ice maker, as we don't use much ice. When I was replacing one of the defrost elements, I had the icemaker out. DW said leave it out, I can use a tray and want the extra room. Ice maker is in a box in the basement. We full time, so the Dometic products are fine for us.
Happy travels, Karl

Thanks Karl. Mine has been great for the most part. I had to replace a defrost part and replaced the ice maker itself a couple of times. I suspect I shot myself in the foot not having the goop they use as some sort of thermal mating material.
The ice tray covers the area completely as you know so I cut the part blocking the top of the ice area. The top front part that is. After cutting it down I used a piece of plastic cutting board to back fill the edge. This gives me access to dump ice into the area without removing the ice bucket.
What I have noticed is that the ice tray area does not get as cold as the lower section of the freezer. For example, freezing ice in the old fashion trays is much faster in the lower section below the ice maker.
I really wished the ice maker would work. Having crushed ice is nice.
The thermal breaker is on order and will be replaced. I was surprised when pushing on the black "button" of the breaker that it reset. The refer was on propane at the time it tripped. Not intentionally. I found my expensive load of propane is almost gone. How it got shifted to propane is a mystery.
Once I replace the part I will switch back to propane to make sure it works properly.

Have same refer, have you found different issues you needed to address, particular maintenance you perform annually? Ours works fine so far.

I have to defrost ours manually every few months.
The freezer seems to be frosting up rather badly these days. I suspect the door seal is not working well.

Myron,
Sounds like a defrost element, there are 2. Also, The small box behind the ice maker on the upper left is where the connections are for the freezer fan and defrost elements. Check there first, as I have a problem where the wires will come apart. I have reconnected with a crimp or solder. Google for operations manual, parts manual. If you pm me I can send them in pdf. I don't do any annual maintenance other then checking the connections behind the refer by removing the outside panel. Mine has been on 7/24 for the last 4 years, as we full time. There is a procedure in the operations manual to keep the refer on AC. I don't use the lp option, as we run the generator when we travel.

Those thermal fuses rarely FAIL........as evidenced by your ability to manually reset via reset button.
They trip due to high temp in 'perk' tube
Is it staying reset?

It is staying reset. Thanks.
I have the manuals so thanks for the offer.
I don't know how it got switched to propane and stayed there. I have kept it on automatic for years without fail.
As for defrosting once in awhile, that is normal due to the extreme humidity here in Central Florida. It is not excessive.
When the freezer defrost element opened there was an error code. That was several years ago. I suspect a bad batch because several folks had the issue.
Curious thing about the ice maker area. The inlet water pipe builds up ice even without the water turned on. I am suspecting the freezer door seal is not what it used to be and the moisture just gets coldest right there and condenses.
Thanks for all of the great suggestions.
