My refrigerator/freezer doesn't cool on gas or electric. The flame ignites and stays burning. What should I check?

Make sure the coach is level. If not turn the ref. off and level the coach. Let the ref back side cool off and then retry. If you have noticed an amonia odor don't bother retrying the unit; it has a leak in the system and will have to be replaced. Let us know the outcome.

Thanks for the reply. Where I park the coach is level. I've driven it and leveled up at my destination and tried it too, but it doesn't get cold. The burner lights and stays lit. Any other tips or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Also, how do you get that info to show up on the bottom of your posts? Thanks.

You haven't said what refer you have and if its a large 2 or 4 door. We have been having problems with large refers not cooling because of cooling fans not working to cool the coils in back of refer. Do you get any change in temp when the gas is on Sounds like you have the 12v with igniter lighting gas but you could have some wiring loose to ckt board have you checked. Inside the refer box not freezer there is a temp sensor on last fin to right side of fridge is it clipped on fin.

It's a Dometic two door. I think I might be getting a slight temperature change and I haven't seen any loose wires at the circuit board. I'll ck everything you mentioned first thing in the morning. Thanks.

Ok after you have checked everything try running a fan below you coils and see if you get any change in temp in the box it may take a while so if you had a thermo it might help to see change.
Also you can go to "FIND" ABOVE YOU AND TYPE IN " refrigerator fans" and you will have 42 bits of additional info to work on. Take off check mark.

I didn't find any loose wires, no ammonia smell. Temp before turning on was 72, after 1 hour it was 68, but after 3 hours was back to 72. Outside temp around 75. I blew compressed air down the chimney as best I could, I didn't see any debris come out. I 'm not sure, but the chimney looks to be like a one inch pipe, wrapped with insulation and has a tin outer cover. The tin cover gets very hot. Is this normal? Also the temp sensor on the fin inside the refer is clipped to a piece of plastic but is not actually touching the fin. I moved the sensor so that it is touching the fin just now and will check in a couple hours if any temp change. There are no fans inside the fridge and I don't have any battery op fans so I haven't tried that but it seems it should work without. Any other ideas before I take somewhere?

I would recommend you have a qualified technician to diagnose the cooling unit. It sounds as thou you have the heat needed for operation. The cooling unit is not performing due to one of two reasons. It is either restricted or has had a leak. Both of these reasons will constitue the need for at least a new cooling unit. Good luck and keep us informed. Thank you.

The fans would be outside in the back of refer in vent area. If the fans don't change anything than follow Mikes surggestions.

Needs a new cooling unit according to dealer. I am thinking of replacing it myself. Good idea? Bad idea?

I don't know your level of mechanical and electrical skills, so it is difficult to say. I would go to www.bryantrv.com and look over the installation instructions for a cooling unit in the service documents area. Then if you feel comfortable about it try it. I would recommend you have another compotent helper get the ref in and out of the wall and help carry the cooling unit out and in the RV. Follow the instructions and if you get stuck on something come here and ask us for help.
