Hello... we are new in the RV world - just purchased a 1999 Damon Challenger and brought it home last night. Woke up early this morning to an alarm going off inside. We have it plugged into the house power and put the refrig on to check it last night. The frig is showing a "C" on the panel and when we opened up the RV it smelled a bit like propane? Not sure what is happening... any suggestions/ideas. The larm finally quit going off once we opened it all up.
thank you very much... we love the RV so far but quite puzzled on what this is...

'C" is the DC voltage to the control panel is too low. Here is a link to the Service Manual for your fridge. Page 15 tells you what to do if the DC Voltage is too low, probably the batteries or battery charger!

Hope this helps!

I would look at the "alarm" and "propane smell" first. It sounds like once your battery got low the system automatically switched over to propane. If the alarm was comming from the LP detector then you have a leak that really needs to be looked at. If no leak is found I would look again...as this can be very dangerous. Once satisfied that there is no leak then the LP alarm may have gone off due to a low battery as well. Hope this helps. Kenyonman

Well an update for our RV. Great news... everything came back to having "Low Batteries". We even had another scare as my husband was driving the RV to the dealer for repairs one of the batteries blew up and put a huge hole in the battery leaking acid all in the street and in the battery compartment. The dealer fixed everything and we are all good now. Amazing that the batteries could cause so many issues.
Thank you everyone for all of your great information. We truly appreciate it.

Yes, I would say that the batteries are the heat of the whole coach and are always the most neglected. If you will take care of the batteries and cables, they will last many years and you will rarely have in-operation of systems. My favorite slogan used by one battery mfg. is "Batteries don't die; they're murdered"!
