Remove TVs

We have a new, (new to us newbies) 2006 Dutch Star model 4023. We would like to replace the two interior Sony Bravia TVs with LCD HDTVs. Has anyone done this? If so, what challenges did you incur. A couple of issues I am facing is how to remove the TVs and how to secure the new LCDs. Thanks in advance for the responses offered.

This is a really common project. In fact I've replaced all three sets in my rig with HD flat screens which are all fed from one DirecTv receiver.

Use our search feature and you'll find a lot of projects documented with photos.

Removing the old sets is usually a challenge and you probably have to remove a strip of wood trim somewhere to access the mounting hardware.

Flat screens are often mounted (using the appropriate mount) on a wooden structure fashioned to hold them and the new monitor.

You might want to consider using LED/LCD TVs. They are much thinner and lighter.

Best of luck.

We are also in NC (the W/S area).

We replaced both the older TV's in our '05 coach. There are several ways that folks go about this.

We took the old TV out of the cabinet in the front. Then we cut a board to match the opening and stained it to match as close as possible the cabinet. We measured the surface area and bought the largest TV that would fit, even covering the outside edge of the cabinet a bit should be fine. Just don't get one that is too small, it will not look right. We used a standard wall mount behind the TV to mount it to the board. Then we cut some small blocks and stained them as well. Those blocks that are attached to the board with Velcro. These go at the bottom edge of the TV to provide stability so that the TV will not move or bounce around while traveling. The wall mount has two strings that hang down to the lower bottom edge of the TV that you pull if you want to remove the TV from the mount.

For the one in the bedroom Thom took the old one out and mounted an LED tv on a board. We then use the board and TV for a cover for the new storage spot.
For the one in the front Thom just mounted the new LED tv and have not done anything yet with the open spot behind it.
I know we looked for months at new tv's and decided to go with LED's since the electric use by the LED's was less than any other type. We also did not get any "smart" tv. Thom did get a Roku for the front one thou. When we have a stable wi-fi/internet connection he can watch lots of shows and movies.

My TV is mid coach and the opening that the original TV was in is 36-1/4" wide. I forgot how tall, but the original TV was a 30" screen, old digital ready model that weighed in at 117 pounds.

I replaced it with a 36" TV. It was comical going around to the stores and measuring the outside dimensions and having the clerks tell me that I needed to measure the diagonal of the screen. I had to tell them that for once I knew what I was doing.

I found one that was 36" diagonal and 36" wide and tall enough to fit also. The rest was just modifying the brackets that held it into the enclosure.

You'll find others that have extended their brackets outside the box when the box was to small for a bigger tv.

Happy trails. Many pieces of information can be found with the search function on this forum. I'm posting the above just to say, "There are options."

I hear ya Wayne. I finally figured out that Amazon spec sheets contain this info and sure saved me a lot of leg work.
