Replacing a Vacuum Breaker Kit - Sealand Toilet I had some fun this weekend fixing our plumbing. Check out the article I wrote in My Blog.

I also had to change the bulb on the top of our Sharp Convection Oven. Who here has fingers small enough to replace the darn light bulb. The only way I got it is was to get a slightly shorter bulb so I went from a 20W to 15W and it was just short enough for me to get it started. Don't want to do that again. I got the bulb at Lowe's and it's described as an intermediate base 15W bulb. The 15Watts by the way provides a good amount of light in the oven. Oddly enough they only had 15s and 25s. The 25W bulb was longer than the one I had so NG on that.

We (the DW actually) were having perceived problems with our oven in that it was pushing out smoke into the cabin from the vents on the top of the unit plus the oven was filling up with smoke. At this point Colleen was afraid of using the oven. I can't have that and still expect to eat ...

The DW was thinking that the Sharp was shot and she was convinced it would have to be replaced because it never ever smoked "before" our son took the rig to the beach. Well investigating a little further, the micro wave wasn't having any problem so that was a good thing so I decided to dig a little deeper.

Working alone (Colleen was in the house) I started the pre-heat cycle for 350°. I turned on the galley fan just in case plus I did expect it to smoke a bit. Although a little smoke was coming out it did not have a burned electrical or chemical smell but the odor was simply reminiscent of burning food so I allowed the warm up cycle to complete. Some minutes later the oven was warmed up and although it did smoke a bit, the smoke was thinning out to the point where it no longer was prominent.

I then went for the gusto and jacked up the heat to 400° for 30 minutes. Just a wee bit more smoke but by the time the oven had completed this cycle, the galley was clear and the oven did not show any smoke. Finishing up Colleen walked into the rig and I told her that the oven was all fixed!

Once the unit cooled down a bit I scrubbed the inside of the unit and cleaned it up really good and we're good to go.

When I was changing the bulb there was some greasy dust or whatever yuk that clings to the vents and this I expect is what might have burned off. After 7 years of service and infrequent spring cleanings I guess it caught up with us but now all is well.

Isn't it nice to know there are some fixes that don't cost an arm and a leg?!

Driver...thank you for the replacement pictures and all of your vacuum breaker. Mine must have frozen sometime and was leaking. Didn't know how to replace it until I saw your blog. Pulled it out today and ordered a new one...thanks again...
