replacing carrier air conditioner capacitor

I have a 2007 Damon Daybreak with the Carrier air V standard 99-00468-00 ducted air conditioners. The Capacitor in the bedroom one died. I thought it would be an easy fix. Go up pop the cover off take out the old one get the #s off it and find a replacement. Now I havent been able to match one up. The numbers on the capacitor are: 12/40 uf SH capacitor +-5% 370v-50/60Hz c22.2 No 190 LR 79596. This is a dual run/start capacitor. The 12/40uf is what is giving me the difficulty. Also the 370v are being phased out and the 440v are replacing them. Has anyone replaced theses capacitors and what am I doing wrong in looking for them?

You might want to think about switching to a hard start capacitor as a mod and because it may be easier to find. RV Air Conditioner Hard Start Capacitor | ModMyRV

You may have to buy OEM on this size capacitor (It is not one of the common sizes) or you can use two capacitors for the same purpose; a 12 uf and a 40 uf. A 440 volt capacity will work fine in place of a 330 volt capacity.

Thanks for your help, now I am considering the hard start capacitor. So if I were to do that what uf do I need for the run capacitor?

The 12/40 uf capacitor is the run capacitor for the compressor and fan motor. Test the capacitors first. If they are bad; replace. If not, find out what is wrong rather than just try throwing parts at it. If you find the compressor start capacitor and or PTCR is bad let me know and I can guide you to a universal hard start.

Follow up. After unsuccesfully searching for Carrier replacement parts I drove to CW. They replaced the air conditioner under my extended warranty. I did however keep the old carrier they took off since I still have one as the front AC.

Start caps and run caps are 2 different items you have to have a run cap
start caps are only need if it is locked up or having trouble starting the volts just needs to be higher 370 or 440 is fine the mfd has to be the same or you can use 2 caps to make 1for the comp and 1 foe the fan that is a odd size

That unit is actually TWO capacitors in one can (Fairly common)

If you go to a motor shop they should be able to find, if not the actual replacement, two seperate units that will do the job. you will need to run one jumper wire (The white one)

To find a shop.. i did that when the motor (not the capacitor) failed on my Carrier Air V 2 weeks ago.. Carrier no longer sells parts for them (Minor federal violation there I think) but he found one that, if anything, is better.

The 12 mf one is for the blower by the way.

As for the 330/440 volt.. Don't worry about that..

A 440 volt rated cap can replace a 330, the reverse is not true.

in fact I have the exact capacitor, though I'd need a Single to replace it (I'd need the condensor side, the larger of the two values) as my new blower motor only uses a 5mmf.

I have a question for the experts.

Anyone know the value of a "Soft start" v/s a "Regular Start" .. I'd like to know.

I think the only difference is wording; soft or regular start verses hard start.
