After our 12 year old Dometic fridge died 2 days before we were leaving on a 2 week trip down the Oregon coast, we looked at the various options. Our rig doesn't have an inverter, so there's no 115 ac when we're driving unless we have the generator running.
In the end, we bit the bullet and had a new Dometic installed (almost $1800!). We got one that actually has an adjustable temperature control, which the old one lacked. I find it very arrogant that a refrigerator manufacture can say "We know what temperature your food should be stored at and we won't let you change it."
Maybe there's another 12 years life in the new one, but it probably won't benefit us until we sell the rig.
I can say without question, that having to park a 32' class A in small-town Oregon Coast grocery store parking lots on a daily basis to buy ice is worth the $1800 to avoid it!
