Residential fridge door securement.

I installed a residential french door fridge and love it. After reading about doors flying open and wine and yogurt painting the kitchen while rolling down the road I spent a few hours locating an easy inexpensive solution for securing the doors. Our last trip I got parked at the S & B and realized I hadn't secured the doors and the destruction had not occurred. My question is does anyone just not worry about it and have no problems ? Did I just get lucky or if I pull out and realize I didn't secure them should I pull over or just wing it ? My coach is very stable on the road. No drawers come open and the items don't move on the countertop. I don't drive like Mr Magoo but I don't do time trail runs at the road course either.
I know the "answer is you have the straps use them to be sure".

Our experience isn't as good as yours. We found that a simple telescoping curtain rod does just fine keeping all the milk/juice/what have you on the top shelf from flying out. You may have to modify the curtain rod's length (I did). Obviously the curtain rod is installed inside the fridge during trips. I made a door lock from a long screw and a piece of 1/2" side steel (from a bracket) that screws into a hold I tapped between the doors to hold them shut. I used an already existing hold, just tapped it to a screw thread I could purchase (Whirlpool uses some odd screw sizes).

Yes, you got lucky.

Thanks, I have the curtain rods also and they were in place. I will be more diligent in remembering to secure the doors.

There are "giant bag ties" you can get at Northern Tool and Tractor Supply and Home Depot - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Nite-Ize...1-A1/203628170

The ones from Northern Tool are cheaper and a bit thicker b/c they are covered in soft foam urethane instead of just rubber. A quick wrap of the handles and the fridge is secured.

If I don't do this, the doors WILL open b/c of the weight of the contents (of the door) and usually will stay open rather than ever swing closed again.

This is what we have. We also have some plastic bins that your DW can buy at Bed Bath & Beyond to holds stuff in the fridge.

This is how we keep our refrigerator doors from opening on our fridge. this is a pic of the top of the refrigerator. 2 screws and a piece of nylon string. out of sight.

If you Google "rv residential refrigerator door locks", there are lots of topics and products.

Our french door residential fridge came with a door lock that locks the french doors as well as the freezer.

With the great roads we have been on - it has been "shaken loose" allowing the doors to open.

We solved this by getting a velcro cinch strap. Wrap it around and it provides a secondary level of security - - but this does nothing for the freezer door.

Good luck....

There are a lot of "Gerry Rigged" solutions out there that work well but I went with the Fridge Fix and love it... Designed for French door fridges.
Easy NO drill installation.....

Good luck

Black duct tape

A simple latch came with ours, but it would occasionally work it’s way back and open.

A strip of duct tape holding the latch in place while not the most aesthetic solution, hasn’t failed us yet.

You don't say how your doors are set up. If it's a over/under, measure the thickness of the door and add 1/4". Then take one of the hinge screws to the hardware store and get one that length, if it has a loop end great as that become a key. A nut to hold a large fender washer in place. Screw that into the other side where those screw holes are when you flip the door and basically screw the door closed. The fender washer does the job. Good Luck.

Another vote for fridge fixer. Great customer service as well.

X many with the same great experience with the recube . We used our first one for 3 years then I accidentally broke the product. They replaced it and have used the device on our french door set up now for over 3 years. The perfect fix for us-- and yes we were constantly dumping food on the floor before the install.
