Residential frig ice maker wire bale question

On my previous coach's Norcold ice maker the wire bale on the ice maker could be locked up, which deactivated the ice maker, and made it easier to sop up the left-over water out of the ice cube slots.
On my Maytag residential frig I can lift the bale but can't tell if it will lock up as I'm afraid to put too much pressure on it. Does this work the same as the Norcold or is it completely different and only the switch will turn off the ice maker but still leaves the bale in the way?

Not know which model of Maytag refrigerator you have, I would day you have a remote switch and the bale will remain down unless in mid cycle of harvest. Refer to Maytag Owners manual

Get out the manual for your fridge. If you don't have one, look online. Some manufacturers use essentially the same ice maker as is in the Norcold (Whirlpool is one of those), and raising the bail shuts off the ice maker. Others (especially French door models with the freezer in a drawer or those with through-the-door ice) use an ice maker with a sweep to detect the level of the ice, but the ice maker is turned off by a button on the control panel.

Sounds precisely like mine is, frig french doors above, ice/water through door, and freezer drawer below . Been using the switch button to turn ice maker off but thought it would be nice if the bale was up and out of the way. Guess we can't have every thing we'd like to. Thanks for the response.
