As we work through our third month of full timing, we're getting the coach in shape and taking care of all those things which have annoyed us but not been worth changing until now.

One of those things is the galley sink. It's way too small and stains so easily that it looks terrible.

Has anyone had any experience installing a full size residential (33x22) sink in their rig? I'll need to replace the counter top but I believe I've got room to make it fit. I'm looking at stainless models to keep the weight down.

I'm also wanting to install a garbage disposal with it but that might be a topic for a different thread.

I have not tried changing my sink but I have inspected the mount...

There is nothign special about the RV sink save the size.. If you got the room GO-4-IT

Winnebago offers a stainless sink in the same exact dimensions. This doesn't solve your size issue but it would help with the staining problem.

I see no reason not to swap it if that's what you want. Nothing special about RV sinks except the size & layout chosen. We have a large stainless sink in ours (factory equipment).

I would say if you have the room go for it. I know I installed a home faucet in our rigs kitchen sink. After the second RV one failed in less than a year.

My Monaco Windsor came with a side-by-side stainless sink and covers. The right one is smaller than the main one. I see nothing wrong with replacing any sink in a RV providing you have the room to install it correctly.

However, regarding the garbage disposal, I would NOT recommend installing one for two reasons. #1, space, the motor takes up a lot of room underneath the sink along with the power to run it, and #2, I would never want to dump garbage into my gray tank where it can settle and mess up the sensors or worse yet clog the gray tank where you would need to replace it. We use a wire mesh strainer on our drain hole to catch the debris before it gets into the tank and simply dump it into our waste basket. After 6 years of constant use I have never had any problems with my gray or black tanks. I did have to replace the valves recently but I guess that's expected.

Best wishes for a Happy Holiday!

I have a large double sink also that was standard with my MH. I would not reccomend a garbage disposal because you should not dump garbage in your tank. My first MH my wife dumped coffee grounds down the drain with out my knowledge and it really messed up the sensors, but the real problem came when dumping the gray water, it took 25 minutes and I could not understand why until my wife said, do you think it was the coffee grounds? It took me 3 times of dumping the gray water before it cleaned out.

My wife and I are still happly married now that she knows not to put anything down the drain.

Thanks all for the insights. I certainly understand the sentiments regarding the garbage disposal. I thought they were beginning to get installed on upper end coaches though. I had assumed that installing a maciator system would be a part of the deal.

Hi Rick,

The macerator similar to a Sani-Con System will work if your tank completely and thoroughly empties each and every time. What it does is that it grinds up the waste before sending it down a small hose into the waste tank in the ground. If the garbage settles into your tank and doesn't get emptied during draining, then it can buildup and cause major problems. There isn't any backwash system on the gray tanks that I know, well at least mine doesn't have one and I haven't seen any as yet, but if you do decide to install a disposal, I would suggest installing a backwash system to your gray tank to hopefully washout any remaining debris left in the tank. You would then have a lesser chance of future problems.

If you have the room change the sink. I hate mine (too small) but don't have the room to change it. I did go through and replaced all of the faucets with house ones though. The ones I had were cheap and kept breaking.
