Unhappy Reversed cables in the battery of the trailer

Last Labor Day w'end, when I was parking the trailer in the campground, my son accidentaly reverse the cables when connecting the battery, I noticed that the ref. was not working, when I checked the connection I put the cables back to right terminal, but after one day, the interior lights dimmed. I will have the batt. checked, because the monitor panel showed "L" (low). Is there a possibility that that the converter is damaged?

Any circuit board controlled piece of equipment has a possibility of being fried. Check the voltage to the battery while connected to shore power and that should give you an idea if it is trying to charge or not.

Assuming you have a converter you probably blew the fuses on the converter as they are there to protect from just such a happening. The ones I've seen have 2, 30amp fuses. Now all you have to do is find your converter.

If you are pulling the trailer with the battery disconnected DON'T. The battery has to be on for the emergency break-away brakes to work.

Thanks Rvpapa, I park my trailer in the campground, I hooked to the site and didn't need to connect the battery to tow it, max speed in campground is 5mph.

Hopefully the reverse polarity fuses are the only things blown.

Suggestion: Visit the hobby department or store, pick up two small cans of spray paint, (RED and BLACK 1 each) Spray all the wires on the POSITIVE end RED.. Likewise Black on the negative.. Don't worry about over spray onto the batteries as this (under these conditions) is actually a good thing.

Many people think think that "Black = Ground = Negative in the auto world, and for the most part, so it is.. However RV's are "Houses" not Autos in the sense that the folks who wire them are not Automotive or Electronics techs like I am.. They are ELECTRICIANS and to an electrician. Black is not ground, neutral or negative.

It is HOT! (Which in the 12 volt world is Positive)

So the red/black spray paint is a very good idea.. Cause in both worlds red is HOT.
