If you use a 2 way switch you will be applying power to the steps all the time. You would need a 2 way switch with a off position and turn it off when the steps are in the position you want. The controller tells the motor the position of the steps. You may be in for more trouble than you started with. JMHO

Most systems are set to remove the hazard of driving away with the step out.... Not fun, one does not wish to do a Robin Williams, beside, its dangerous Lol.

I bypassed my 93 Bounder 10 years ago.I very much love it.It opens and closes when I want it to.No more problems.I used a rocker switch from a Ford pickup window control.
Hope this helps Doyle

On our last rig we wanted to be able to ensure the steps were shutdown while travelling (read our blog for more info on the history).

What we did was install a relay so that when energized, the steps were OFF. This meant that if the relay failed/fuse blew that the steps woudl operate normally.

The relay was powered via a switch that we installed on the driver's console so that it was easy to turn on/off.

To answer the question you asked.. Yes, I do.

To answer the question you did not ask.. you need a 3 position center off, spring return double pole double throw switch.

On one end connect the two leads from the motor, plus two short Jumpers, Cross these two jumpers over so they form the letter X (no connection at cross over) to the other end.

To the center one side gets 12vdc via a fuse, the other ground.

It matters not whcih side is which or which way you hook the motor up cause you LABEL it after testing.

Make very sure to use a spring return to off switch.

Yes, there is another way.
