Roof air questions

Dometic 13,500. When I turn the AC on or only the fan on the coach breaker for the AC trips. Changed the breaker (20amp) and still the same. Cannot find anything wrong with any wiring. Fan is turning easy. Pulled the capacitors and did a check (test) I found online. They didn't check right--not sure if it's me checking or actually the capacitor.

Will a bad capacitor trip a breaker? If not, where else should I check?

Thanks
DICK

a bad capacitor will trip the breaker, as it makes the starting amps too high

Bad capacitor is likely. Also check condenser coils on the roof for debris. The fan draws in dirt, pollen, fuzz from trees, etc. clogging the coils.

Capacitors are cheaper than a new unit. Might as well replace them.

I had already pulled the capacitors, had them tested today and they were OK. If the rain lets up by tomorrow I'll replace them and start testing the wiring. If it is the fan motor are there any shortcuts to replacing it? I'll look at it tomorrow but sometimes someone knows the easy way!!!!

Thanks for all the replies,
DICK

roof air diag

If the breaker trips with just the fan not the compressor, then I would look at the 110v wires for a short, sounds as if the 110v feed from the control box to the roof unit is shorted. Did anyone install any new equipment?
I would disconnect the 110 feeding the roof unit @ the roof unit, then disconnect the feed that comes out of the dometic control box (the other end of the wire) and check for shorts to ground or shorts to return. If you have questions you can PM me.

dometic model #: 600312.321

After replacing the capacitors I disconnected the 120v wires at the control box. Checked voltage from breaker--good. Stuck the black & white from control box into an extension cord and turned on fan to high--nothing & no breaker tripping. Then tried the fan at different speeds--low--nothing, med--heard a hum and then fan quit, still no breaker tripping.

Sounds like fan motor seized up some. Does it spin very freely?

If the motor fan is seizing, for the cost & age of it you would be better off to have it replaced. 15,000 isn't going to cost much more then a 13,500.

There is probably a small (smaller than your thumb) 10 Amp in line cap attached to the bottom of the box underneath your 2 box mounted caps. This one is about $15. Since mine are 2001 models and still pulling well over 20 degree deltas I replaced all three Caps in each roof top. Might want to see if yours have these small motor start caps. You should be able to get the motor tested and replaced at a motor shop also

Thanks for the replies. Motor turns freely by hand. I am trading this unit in shortly but want to fix it before we do that. Hot here (Fl) and one 12,500 just can't keep up.

Everything I've read and checked is indicating an internal short in the motor.

My motor is F42E85A61 and I can't find the same one. The nearest is "Dometic Brand duo-therm Brisk Air Fan Motor Replacement Kit 3108706.916"
It shows 1/5 hp,A2.0 and mine is 1/4 hp.A3.5. Is this a good replacement?

Thanks

I have to replace my Duo-Therm 3106463.007 and I found a 3109228.001 5 button control and is this a good replacement for heat and air? My problem was I can not get my rear air to come on. Thank you Bob
