Alright, I have a 3 year old RV that is new to me. I was trying the AC out today and found that it did not really get that cold. It was about 60 outside, but the interior of the RV was 70. I pushed the thermostat all the way down and it would run for about 3 mins. I checked the amperage, overload protector, condenser and fans. I tracked it down to the thermostat - it was doing as it was supposed to or shall I say that the compressor was running when called for by the thermostat. However, it should not have shut off before the RV got down to at least 65 - in my eyes. I want it colder so since it seemed to be set "high", tweaked the thermostat. It helped and I got it to shut off at 65, but I still think it could have been better and I really think I shouldn't have had to do that.

My rooftop AC unit is a RVP8000 series, model 8333D. Should I just replace the thermostat, go with some digital conversion kit (if they make one) or just tweak it some more. Or, is there some problem with these that my search failed to show.

Thanks.

If you are certain the the T'stst is what stopped the call for the compressor to run and it was set for a lower temperature, then the T'stat is defective and must be replaced. One thing that you did not mention was the temperature of the air coming out of the unit and the temperature of the air going in. It should be about 20 degrees difference depending on humidity and it has been running for over five minutes.

Check the air flow patterns too.. Some idiot may have put the T-Stat with an air conditioner blowing on it and convincing it that it is colder than it is.. I've seen it happen.

I'm not an air conditioning expert, but I believe the fact that an outside temperature of only 60 degrees might be affecting the performance. I've had my shrouds off numerous times and there is a temperature sensor near the condensors. This is on the outside. I've tried testing my A/C when it was cold and they didn't really come on. I wouldn't do much replacing of parts until you can test your A/C on a warmer day.
