RV has 1 house bat. Want to install inverter. Battery is marine starting.

Bought the class c a month ago. Want to install inverter so kids can watch TV while driving. I do not plan to use the inverter for boondocking. Will use camp ground power or gen power while camping. Turns out the coach battery is a marine starting bat and not deep cycle. Is this ok? Whenever the inverter will be in use, the van will be running 99% of the time and battery will be charging from altinator I assume. Also only have 1 coach battery. Ok? Only plan to run a tv and dvd player while driving.

You'll be fine with that battery.

Get yourself a 500 to 1000 watt inverter and tie it in.

I used a single GP 31, dual purpose battery and junk, Harbor Frieght, 750 watt inverter, for our first trip from PA to FL. Watched Sat TV and made coffee in the AM.

Once settled in, down south, I replaced the noisy inverter with a PSW 1000 inverter, auto transfer switch and a pair of GC2 batteries in a compartment. The next spring, I added 300 watts of solar.

In general, a deep cycle battery is more suited for house use. It can put out a low number of amps over a longer period of time. A starting battery is designed to put out higher amps (like an engine starter) for a short period of time.

Your plan to use the inverter only while on the road would be O.K. I'd check the battery voltage at rest, then start the engine and measure again to be sure it's being charged by the alternator. (give it time, there likely is a delay before charging starts)

When the present house battery gives up the ghost, I'd replace it with either two 6v deep cycle (golf cart) batteries or two 12v deep cycle batteries.
