RV Toilet paper usage
Ok so I have been round and round about using Rv paper and standard house paper and I have learned the hard way. House paper does work BUT when you go to flush out the system good luck you will need to flush over and over again becouse the paper does not break down so trust me when I say dont do what I did I should have listened to EMILE and Eric sorry guys

A few month ago we were in a rural area and couldn't find any RV paper so I switched to septic safe Scotts. Ever since, I see much more solid paper when I flush. I have a few more rolls to use up but then I'm going back to RV paper.

You mean they make specific stuff for a reason? I've been told by numerous well doers that by using tank chemicals and RV toilet paper not only am I wasting my money but I'm harming the enviroment too.
I'll keep using RV specific stuff, thanks.

Yeah, I tried the TP thing and also quit using the black tank chemicals. I'm happy with using Dawn and now Pine Sol both as a rinse and in place of deodorizing chemicals... and it sure is cheaper.

We might have bought a few rolls of "RV" TP when we first bought our motorhome, but none since... We use either Scott or Walmart Best Value brand, and through my clear attachment I note very few TP particles when I dump the tank every 4-5 days. We have stretched our dump cycle to 7 days when we didn't have a sewer hookup, but that was pretty thick stuff running out ...but still not a lot of TP ...and we NEVER use chemicals ...just water...

We haven't ever used RV toilet paper - just septic tank compatible stuff. Never have a problem and it breaks down just fine. We avoid quilted, perfumed and designer patterns because the paper in that is usually thicker and tougher, so it doesn't break down as well.

I have only used RV paper once... it came with a porti-potti we had bought. Once was enough, It was tossed in the trash. We will stick with the Cottonelle. In over 30 years of porti-pottis and RV toilets, we have never had a problem.

I have always use Scotts for septic and have a clear view fitting on hose for dump hose and never see solid paper pass through.
Use plenty of water and paper will brake down and flush through off set toilet pipe.

i started using the Scott's RV and marine from WalMart 2.5 years ago when we went fulltime. I no longer see any clumps of paper flowing out when I dump the black tank. it dissolves very quick and completely.

Ricko,
Please tell me more about Dawn and Pine Sol. Which one seems to work best and when and how much are you using?
Black tank chemicals are expensive and we're all looking to save money in this economy.

My Clean Dump macerator doesn’t work as hard when using RV paper. After I added a Cyclone 360 sewer vent I quit using chemicals in the tank.

This issue seems to go around and come around every few months with basically the same outcome. Some people only use RV paper & chemicals and others only use normal household tissue and water.
I for one use chemicals sporadically and prefer to use Costco or Sam's Club tissue. I have never come close to having any clog or dumping problems. I have always used a clear adapter to view the outcome and always use my blank tank flush to clean out the tank after dumping. Not too much more comes out of my tank except for clear water after back flushing.
Bottom line, I won't waste my money on RV tissue and I only use chemicals occasionally to keep the valve lubricated and add some deodorizer to the tank especially during really hot weather.

I have noticed that the black tank valve had become more and more difficult to operate since I quit using chemicals.

I use the worst toilet paper there is for RV's as I understand it. Charmin Ultra. I do tear off each square before I use it so it is not in one long string. I have as yet to have any problems. I do see the squares going out when I dump. As a retired plumber I will handle anything than might happen. In 4.8 years it has been OK. It goes through my macerator just fine.
