It's time to sanitize our fresh water tank. It seems I read that a 1/4 of bleach per gal. of water to be added to the tank is the correct amount. Add about 5 gal's let it set for a few hours, run it through the lines and then run water through the lines until the bleach smell is gone. Is this correct? Also, read somewhere to add baking soda but don't know about that.

Thanks,
RJ

The sources I read say 1/4 to 1/2 cup bleach per 15 gallons of water. Add bleach to tank, fill tank completely and let it sit several hours. If you add too much bleach, you will have a devil of a time getting rid of it.

Oh, and don't forget to remove any in-line water filter cartridges.

As paz says, I run through empty water hose than connect to water source fill tank pump through water line to sinks, showers, water heater than take a ride to splash through out tank walls.
Don't forget water filter for ice maker and kitchen sink also.
I let set over night than drain and reload with fresh water and flush out.

And if you have an inline filter, be sure to rinse out the screw on lower bowl portion of it. I did not do this early this spring and found out the hard way that sediment had settled into the bottom of the canister and was distributed throughout my fresh water system when flushing. Most of the water flow restrictor fittings on my sinks plugged up as a result.
